Bread: It was as much a staple of the
Downton era kitchens as any food. Freshly baked breads were served at
every meal and the leftovers were often turned into other dishes.
In the book "Edwardian Cooking: 80 Recipes Inspired by Downton Abbey's
Elegant Meals," there is a section devoted to the breads of the Abbey.
This bread (not in the cookbook) was quite popular and includes a cheese
originated in England... Cottage Cheese.
This is one of those
breads which is very hard to stop eating. You have an incredible moist
texture and every single bite is laden with herbs (fresh herbs from the
Abbey gardens). It is a very simple bread to make at home but be warned,
the dough is very sticky and unlike most other breads.
