There is not a better way to start a
New Year than with something sweet and quite healthy. All of your
cravings accomplished with one very simple preparation and leave it up
to the amazing Thai people to have such a dish: Lemon Balm and Thai
Basil Banana Bread!
Whereas herbs in dessert breads is not too
common within the United States, it is a very popular thing to do
throughout Asia. Lemon balm is a wonderful herb with many medicinal
attributes and the slight flavor of lemon. Thai basil is a rather spicy
basil with a little stronger taste than the usual basil. You can find
both at your local market or even better, you can grow your own very
easy.
This is a very simple dessert bread to make at home and also freezes quite well when wrapped in plastic wrap and then foil.
INGREDIENTS NEEDED TO MAKE LEMON BALM AND THAI BASIL BANANA BREAD:
4 very ripe bananas, mashed; 1/4 cup melted butter; 1 cup sugar; 1 1/2
cups flour; 1/4 tsp. salt; 1 egg, beaten; 6 lemon balm leaves, minced; 5
Thai basil leaves, minced.
