Classic Chinese: Beef (or Pork) and Broccoli

If you are a fan of Chinese food and eating at Chinese restaurants, you have no doubt tried the classic Beef and Broccoli. In all actuality, there is no such dish in China. What there is, however, is Pork and Gai Lan. Gai Lan is a Chinese broccoli and when the dish became Americanized, they changed the pork to beef!

The simple fact is, you can use either beef or pork to make this dish and the cooking time will be the same. To get the true and authentic flavors of this dish, you will want to use a Chinese broccoli, which can now be found in most supermarkets. Chinese broccoli is less pungent that regular broccoli and the florets are smaller and more tender.

As with most dishes stir-fried in a wok, this is rather quick to prepare at home and very simple!
