Can you name the most popular cookie in
Asian cuisine? If you said Fortune Cookie, you are wrong.
Matter-of-fact, Fortune Cookies are not Asian at all. They were invented
in San Francisco, California as a marketing gimmick for an Asian
restaurant.
The most popular Asian cookie is the famed Sesame
Cookie. These are a very light cookie with a delicate texture and the
wonderful nutty flavor of toasted sesame seeds. They are a very simple
cookie to make at home!
Unlike many American types of cookie,
these do not include butter. The fat used in these cookies is
shortening. In Asia they will use an animal fat shortening but you can
use the usual vegetable shortening you find at your local market.
These cookies are usually served after the meal with a cup of green tea.
